Project management tools are essential for keeping track of your project timelines, budgets and resources, allowing you and your team to work and collaborate more efficiently and effectively.

Whether you’re looking to switch to a new tool or finally invest in one, you’ve probably come across two solutions provided by Microsoft: Project Online and Project for the web. Both are cloud-based project management platforms developed to help project managers plan, execute and monitor their projects and therefore offer similar functionality. However, there are some key differences to consider when deciding which is right for you.

In a nutshell, Microsoft Project Online is part of the Office 365 suite and is a more comprehensive project management tool than Project for the web, making it suitable for planning, prioritising and managing large and complex projects, programmes and portfolios.

On the other hand, Microsoft Project for the web is a simpler, more lightweight solution that is designed to help individuals and small teams manage their projects. Part of the Microsoft 365 suite, it includes capabilities such as Gantt charts, task management and basic resource management.
